Men’s Lacrosse Knocked Off By Potent Skidmore Attack 20-10

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 23, 2011) -- The Vassar College men's lacrosse team showed promise at the outset by netting a goal in the first minute but a potent Skidmore offense caught fire for 10 first period goals en route to a 20-10 victory Saturday at Weinberg Field.

Vassar freshman Max Herman scored on a bounce with an assist from sophomore Ryan McCarthy 55 seconds into the contest. Skidmore responded with four goals in two minutes to take a 4-1 lead. The Thoroughbreds dominated the opening period, scoring six of the next seven goals to jump out to a 10-2 lead.

The Brewers (5-7, 1-4) host Union College on Wednesday, April 27, at 7:00 p.m. The Thoroughbreds (10-3, 4-1) have clinched a berth to the Liberty League Playoffs and move into a first place tie with Clarkson. Skidmore hosts Clarkson in the final league game this Saturday, April 30, at 1:00 p.m.

Mike Holden powered the Thoroughbred attack with five goals on nine shots and Bryan Connolly orchestrated the offense with five assists and one goal.

Skidmore outshot Vassar 21-5 in the first period and 41-5 in the first half. Vassar made improvements in the second half and outscored Skidmore 6-4, 4-1 in third period.

Vassar junior Christopher Toffoli erupted for four second half goals and classmate Jeff Lee dished three of his four assists in the second half. Herman finished with three goals. Senior Sam Seymour tallied two goals and an assist.
