POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 22, 2010) – Senior midfielder Sarah Warner scored the game-winning goal with 1:25 remaining to help the Vassar College women's lacrosse team stem a comeback effort from visiting Clarkson University, and register a thrilling 16-15 Liberty League victory on Friday afternoon at a breezy and overcast Weinberg Field.

Warner's fourth goal of the contest put a dramatic end to a game in which Clarkson rallied from a four goal deficit at 14-10 with 5:56 to play to tie the contest at 15-15 with 1:41 following a goal from sophomore attack Kerrie Cline. After Cline's goal, Warner took the ensuing draw control and on her own personal fast break drove straight to goal and fired a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal past Clarkson junior goalie Hannah Walters.

The victory earns Vassar its first Liberty League win of the season and improves the Brewers to 6-6, 1-4. Clarkson drops to 1-10, 0-7. Vassar will play its final home game of the season and honor its five graduating seniors on Saturday, April 23 against St. Lawrence at 2:00 p.m. Clarkson will travel to Rensselaer on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. game.

Seventeen of the game's 31 goals were scored in the first half with the Brewers holding an 11-6 halftime lead off four goals from senior midfielder Allie Morgan. When Warner converted on a free position shot with 14:28 to play until intermission, Vassar had built a comfortable 8-4 lead and was converting its goals on a high percentage of attempts. Clarkson's junior midfielder Saryn Campbell was able to keep the Golden Knights within striking range with three first half goals off Vassar junior goalie Heather Kesselman.

Back-to-back goals from junior midfielder Elizabeth Feltch enabled the Brewers to end the half up 11-6 and extend that lead to 12-6 seven minutes into the second half. Scoring was not at the same pace for either team in the second half, although the Golden Knights were able to chip away at the Vassar lead, and despite seven saves from senior backup goalie Nicole Engelhardt, storm back into the game with a rush of late offense.

After junior midfielder Morgan Namian pushed the Brewers ahead 14-10 with 5:56 remaining, Clarkson scored five of the game's next six goals in a 3:50 span to tie the contest 15-15. Five different Golden Knights players figured into the scoring, with Campbell scoring a goal and assisting on three others. Campbell's fourth goal of the game with 2:16 remaining, followed by Cline's tally 35 seconds later, made for a frenetic end to the contest. It was climaxed by Warner's game-winner -- her fourth of the game -- just 16 seconds after Cline had tied the game.

The Vassar goalies of Kesselman and Englehardt had five and seven saves respectively, while Walters made 12 stops, six in each half. In addition to scoring five goals, Morgan led the Brewers with seven ground balls and Warner added five. Clarkson got a stellar performance from Campbell, who had seven ground balls in addition to her four goals. Cline added three goals for Clarkson.
