UNION, N.J. (March 5, 2011) -- A year ago, the Vassar College men's lacrosse team upset Kean University 11-8 to open the season. On Saturday, the Brewers nearly repeated the feat, rallying from a 5-2 deficit to take a 7-6 lead, only to see the Cougars score two straight goals – the last with 7.3 seconds in overtime – to defeat the Brewers 8-7.
After Vassar had secured a 7-6 lead with 9:16 to play off a goal from junior
Jack Gross, Kean junior attack Nick Angrisani scored back-to-back goals, including the game winner.
The Brewers, 0-1, will play two spring break games, the first coming on March 9 against Guilford College at 2:00 p.m. Kean(2-1) returns to action on Saturday, March 12, when the Cougars host Western Connecticut State University at 1:00 p.m.
Vassar erased a 6-3 third-quarter deficit, as they netted four straight goals spanning the third and fourth quarters to take a 7-6 lead with 9:16 remaining. Senior
Sam Seymour figured into three of the goals, notching his second tally of the game, and assisting on goals by Gross and freshman
Max Herman. Sophomore
Ryan McCarthy assisted on the Gross' goal that pushed the Brewers ahead 7-6.
Kean's Angrisani tied the game at 7-7 just over two minutes later when he scored off the assist from rookie Richard Cheifitz with 7:08 left in regulation, before netting the unassisted goal in the final seconds of the first overtime session.
The Cougars held a 2-1 lead after the first quarter, before extending the lead to 5-2 at halftime behind a pair of goals from sophomore Ryan Buerkle.

Alex Tice started the game in goal and made seven saves. Freshman
Andrew Nicol made eight saves in his college debut, but took the loss for the Brewers, subbing for Tice in the third and fourth periods.
