POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 30, 2011) -- The Vassar College baseball team overcame an early 4-0 deficit to take a 5-4 lead in the fifth inning but SUNY Old Westbury picked up three runs in the final two innings for an 8-5 win Wednesday evening at Prentiss Baseball Field.
The Panthers broke the 5-5 tie in the eighth inning as Steven Henriquez singled down the left field line to score Benjamin Farias from second base. In the ninth, Josef Schaetzle added a pair of insurance runs as he crushed a homerun over the right field fence to bring in Melvin Simmons. Marvin Rosario replaced Steven Chapter on the mound in the ninth and collected his second save of the season with a double play to end the game.
The Brewers (5-6) host Skidmore in a doubleheader this Saturday, April 2, at 12:00 p.m. The Panthers (7-10) play a road double-header against St Joseph's College-L.I. on Saturday at noon.
Although Panther starter Ryan Bresnahan held Vassar to only one hit through the first three frames, the Brewers figured him out the second time through the order and erupted for four runs on four hits and one error to tie the game. With one out and runners on first and second, senior

Joe Castilla followed with an RBI double. Vassar add two more runs on a fielder's choice and a wild pitch.
Vassar took its first and only lead at 5-4 in the fifth with a sacrifice fly by Costanzo that scored sophomore
Mike Perrone. Costanzo led the Brewers at the dish, going 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run. Luongo accounted for two runs with an RBI and a run.
Benjamin Farias propelled the Panther offense with two RBI and two runs on a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Ali Ferreiras went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a walk.
Chapter earned the win for Old Westbury with three scoreless innings in relief. Vassar sophomore
Zander Mrlik left the game with a 5-4 lead after six hits in five innings. Junior
Race Bottini earned the loss with one run on two hits.
