Men's Lacrosse Ends Season with 11-5 Loss to Union in Liberty League Play

SCHENECTADY, NY (April 28, 2010) – The Vassar College men's lacrosse team concluded the 2010 season with a 11-5 loss to Union College in Liberty League play on Wednesday night at Frank Bailey Field. 

The Brewers finish the season at 4-10, 0-6. The Dutchmen improve to 11-2, 4-1 and travel to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, May 1 for a 7:00 p.m. game. Union currently sits in second place in league standings, one game behind RPI. 

Union jumped out to a 7-0 halftime lead and led 8-0 early into the third quarter before senior attack Sean Murray got the Brewers on the board with his 14th goal of the season at 10:17 remaining. Union went ahead 9-1 before Vassar notched its second goal with 2:13 remaining in the quarter, a man-up tally by sophomore attack Jack Gross, his 19th of the season. 

Down 10-2 heading into the fourth period, the Brewers added their third goal, courtesy of sophomore midfielder Jeff Lee, his 11th of the season, at the 10:09 mark. Senior attack Nick Cardillo concluded his exceptional Vassar career with his 20th goal of the season with 5:27 to play. 

Vassar closed out its scoring with its fifth goal coming from Gross off a Cardillo assist with 21 seconds remaining. 

In a display of balanced scoring, Union got one goal each from nine different players, and two goals from freshman attack Robert Young. 

Vassar junior goalie Alex Tice made six saves in the contest. Union played three goalies, with sophomore Sean Aaron earning the victory with two saves and two goals allowed in 45 minutes of action. Union goalies combined for 12 saves in the game. 

With Union held a slim 32-30 edge in shots, it was the quick start that led the Dutchmen to the victory.
