MIDDLETOWN, CT (December 4, 2010) – Freshman guard Cydni Matsuoka scored a career high 28 points and the Vassar College women's basketball team jumped out to a commanding 45-27 halftime lead, to defeat Keystone College 84-64 in the consolation game of the Wesleyan College Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Silloway Gym.

Matsuoka, who tallied 19 of her 28 points against Keystone in the first half and added a career-best 10 assists, was named to the All-Invitational Team. However, she wasn't the only newcomer to register a career high. Freshman forward Hannah Senftleber tallied a career-best 23 points on 9-12 shooting for a Brewers team that shot over 50 percent from the floor for the first time this season. Semftleber also had a game-high 11 rebounds.

The victory snaps a three-game losing streak for the Brewers. Vassar will play its final game of the semester on Wednesday, December 8 at Centenary (NJ) College at 6:00 p.m. The Brewers opened last season with a 95-89 victory over Centenary. Keystone remains winless at 0-7 and will next host Cedar Crest College on December 6.

The victory, which was Vassar's second straight over Keystone, was spurred by a massive offensive run just one minute into the game. Tied 2-2, Vassar outscored Keystone 25-2 in a ten minute span that resulted in a 27-4 lead. During this offensive blitz, the Brewers got multiple baskets from sophomore forward Natalie Allen, Matsuoka, junior guard Brittany Parks and Senftleber. Parks had 16 points in the contest. In that game-changing run, Vassar forced Keystone into eight turnovers and four missed jump shots.

The Brewers cruised into halftime with a 45-27 lead on the strength of 16 points off turnovers and six points on second chance opportunities. Vassar also shot 64 percent from 3-point distance, connecting on 7-11 long range shots.

Throughout the second half, Vassar never let its lead dip below 14 points. The closest Keystone came to making a dent in the Brewer margin came at 53-39 with 15:12 to play in the game. Matsuoka quickly dashed any Keystone comeback hopes by draining a 3-pointer on an appropriate assist from Senftleber for a 56-39 lead. Matsuoka then connected on a second straight 3-pointer for a 59-39 lead, providing the Brewers with a comfortable margin 20 point margin. Vassar's lead ballooned to 82-57 with 3:21 to play following a 3-pointer from sophomore guard Ali Higgins, who had a season-best eight points.

In the second half, the Brewers made another six 3-pointers and finished with a 59.1 shooting percentage from behind the arc. Defensively, Vassar held a 37-21 rebounding margin.

Senior guard Ellen Fallon led Keystone with 25 points.
