Box Score

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 26, 2010) - The Vassar College women's basketball team displayed an impressive crop of young talent as its freshmen lineup received significant playing time in Vassar's 79-20 victory over College of New Rochelle Tuesday night at the Athletics & Fitness Center.

The Brewers (6-8) end a three-game skid with tonight's victory and resume Liberty League play looking to improve on a 2-3 league record as they host Skidmore College this Friday at 6:00 p.m, following with Union College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Blue Angels take a 1-14 record on the road to Farleigh Dickinson-Florham this Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

The Brewers' full court press stifled the Blue Angel's offense early as senior forward Emily Haeuser scored the contest's first points on a steal and layup combo. New Rochelle's Elizabeth Johnston evened the score at 2-2 on a fast-break lay-up assisted by Alianna Cordova.

That would be the final tie of the game as Vassar reeled off 25 unanswered points fueled by Haeuser who scored 11 of Vassar's first 13 points with a flurry of jumpers and hook shots. Johnston carried the Blue Angels by scoring nine points and shooting 50 percent from the field in the first half. Vassar took a 38-11 lead into halftime.

Coming off the bench, the freshmen crew Samantha McClenahan, Natalie Allen, Sayre Scrimshaw-Hall, Anielle Fredman, and Olivia Westbrook-Gold saw significant minutes in the second half and contributed to Vassar's 56.3 percent shooting from the field. Fredman and Westbrook-Gold chipped in with 10 points and four rebounds apiece, for Fredman a career-high scoring output.

Haeuser paced Vassar with 17 points, hitting 8-for-9 from the floor. Freshman Tori Chaltain led Vassar with five rebounds and added 13 points. Haeuser, Chaltain, and junior guard Carolyn Crampton each notched four steals.

Johnston led New Rochelle with 11 points, eight rebounds, and 2 blocks.
