Game One
The Yellowjackets cruised to victory in the first game behind a strong start from Dan Ludwig who carried a no hitter into the fourth inning and a shutout into the sixth. Ludwig picked up the complete seven-inning game win to improve to 3-0, allowing two earned runs on four hits, with five walks and one strikeout.
Rochester struck early, as Andy Cannon led off the first inning with a double into center field.
Blayne Fuke followed with a walk, and a JJ Vanderstyne bunt single quickly loaded the bases for the Yellowjackets. Ryan Sullivan reached on an error to score Cannon and keep the bases loaded with no outs. However, Vassar starter
Scott Allen induced a ground-out double play from the next batter and though a run scored, another ground-out ended the inning with minimal damage.
The Yellowjackets scored four runs on two hits, two errors, and four walks in the top of the third to chase Allen and take a commanding 7-0 lead. Another five runs in the sixth put Rochester up 10-0. Nate Stein blasted a two-run double, Alex Caghan hit a two-run single, and a Matt Francis RBI double accounted for Rochester's runs in the sixth inning.
The Brewers plated their two runs in the bottom of the sixth as the first four batters reached base. Junior shortstop
Ari Glantz led off with a single down the right line, freshman third baseman
Sal Costanzo followed with a double, and a single from sophomore second baseman
Joe Castilla scored Glantz. Sophomore catcher
David Ringold followed with a walk to load the bases before Ludwig managed an out, in the form of a 1-2-3 double play. Castilla scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.
Rochester pounded out 14 hits in the win, paced by Stein, who was 4-for-5 with five RBIs and three runs scored. Sullivan added three hits, two RBIs and three runs scored.
Costanzo was the only Brewer with more than one hit, in a 2-for-3 day. Allen took the loss, pitching two and one third innings, with seven runs, five earned, on four hits. He walked seven with no strikeouts.
Game Two
Vassar again saw itself in an early hole, facing a 7-0 deficit after three innings. An RBI triple from Sullivan and an RBI double from Stein in the first inning gave the Yellowjackets an early 2-0 lead and Rochester followed a one-run second with four unearned runs in the third. Senior starter
Tyler Bellstrom got two quick outs to start the third, but a dropped fly ball kept Rochester at the plate. Brian Bezek had the big hit in the inning, coming to the plate with the bases loaded. The freshman second baseman sent a shot to right center field that looked like it might clear the fence for a grand slam, but Bezek got the next best thing in a bases-clearing triple.
The Brewers cut into the Rochester lead with two runs in the fourth as sophomore first baseman
Joe Bubar sent a lead-off single through the right side. A two-out double from Castilla scored Bubar, and sophomore outfielder
