POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (December 5, 2009) – Despite a huge milestone for Vassar women's basketball senior Emily Haeuser who eclipsed the 1,000 career points milestone with a 14-point double-double, the Brewers dropped their third straight game in a 54-48 loss to Brooklyn College on Saturday afternoon at the Athletics and Fitness Center.

The Brewers take a 2-4 record to Western Connecticut on Tuesday, December 8th while the 4-3 Bulldogs face off against St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn).

In a game with only three ties and three lead changes, the Brewers stayed within striking distance for most of a close second half. A lay-up and free throw from Vassar junior Carolyn Crampton evened the game at 48-48 with 3:31 left to play. Brooklyn's Frances Lyons nailed a jumper on the next play and Brooklyn held onto that precarious 50-48 as neither team scored for the ensuing three minutes.

The Bulldogs finally broke the scoring drought when Priscilla Ramirez drove to the basket and dished to a wide-open Ashley Allen who knocked down the three-pointer to extend the Bulldog lead to 53-48 with 25 seconds remaining.

After Vassar failed to score on the following possession, the Brewers were forced to send Lyons to the line where she hit one of two free throws for the final margin of victory.

Brooklyn College led for entire second half riding the inside presence of Lyons who notched a game-high 23-point and 11 rebounds.

Haeuser's milestone arrived in the middle of three consecutive old-fashioned three-point plays that cut a 10-point Bulldog lead in half to 46-41 with 7:29 remaining. Fittingly, the free throw that ushered Haeuser into the 1,000-point club came after Haeuser drew contact while sinking her signature southpaw hook-shot in the paint. Haeuser becomes only the 7th player in Vassar Women's Basketball history to reach the 1,000 point mark and sits only two points away from Jamie Pearson '91 for the 6th spot all-time with 1,005 points.

The Brewers opened the game with a 14-4 lead behind a 6-point contribution from freshman Natalie Allen but the Bulldogs countered with a 14-3 run to take an 18-15 lead on a jump shot by Sabrina Washington. Brooklyn's Allen scored the half's final points on a three-pointer to tie the game at 21-21 with 48 seconds remaining.

Amber Gordon added 12 points, nine rebounds, and five steals for the Bulldogs.

Haeuser led Vassar with a 14-point, 11-rebound double double on her historic day. Crampton was Vassar's second leading scorer with eight points and six rebounds, while freshman Tori Chaltain chipped in with seven points. Brittany Parks added four steals.
