POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 25, 2009) – With the weather doing its part, the Vassar College women's soccer team held up its end to turn Sunday into a picture perfect Senior Day, with a 3-0 win over Clarkson University at Gordon Field.

The Brewers have now won four straight to improve to 9-7, 3-4 in the Liberty League. Vassar will conclude its season with an away game at St. Joseph's College next Saturday, October 31 at 3:00 p.m. The Golden Knights fall to 3-10-2, 1-6 in the league and will next play at Potsdam State on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

Vassar did all its damage in the first half, keeping the ball in the offensive end to outshoot Clarkson, 11-2 and hold a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Following a number of close calls, junior Carolyn Demougeot finally found the back of the net in the 28th minute as junior Rachel Shea sent a through ball towards the left side. Demougeot raced on to the pass, tapped the ball past a Clarkson defender and unleashed a shot past Golden Knight keeper Stephanie Collins for her team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Demougeot added a second goal with 6:46 to play in the half following a corner kick from freshman Keiko Kurita. Junior Lauren Bell got a head on the initial offering, but her shot bounced off the cross bar. Demougeot was there for the rebound, winning the loose ball and tapping it into the net. Demougeot had a strong day for the Brewers with five shots, three on goal.

The Brewers were not done yet, as they capitalized on a corner kick with time winding down in the half. Kurita sent a perfect ball into the box and freshman Sabrina Martins easily one-timed home her first collegiate goal with just 6.3 seconds left on the clock.

The Golden Knights got their best opportunity with a little over 20 minutes to play in the game as sophomore Courtney Green sent a great shot on net from the right side. Freshman goalie Ali Higgins made a spectacular one-handed block, leaping backwards and falling to the ground. Although the ball trickled out of her hands, Higgins was able to corral it before any Clarkson player could get a foot on it.

Although she was unable to score, senior Anna Robinson did what she has done her entire career, putting immense pressure on the Clarkson defense with her speedy runs up the sideline and pinpoint crosses to the box. She recorded a team-leading seven shots, five on goal in the win, including a beautiful shot just minutes into the game that bounced down off the crossbar inches in front of the goal line. The Brewers honored Robinson and fellow senior classmates Laura Smith and Caitlin Bowman in a ceremony before the game.

The Brewers outshot the Golden Knights 18-8 and took six corner kicks to Clarkson's two. Higgins made five saves as she improved to 5-5, while Collins made eight saves in the loss.
