ELMHURST, IL (January 6, 2009) – Although a layup by Vassar College freshman
Kristyn Tempora (Marlboro, NJ/St. John Vianney) put her team on the board first, the 2-0 lead proved to be its only advantage of the night, as Elmhurst College scored 21 unanswered points in the first half en route to a 90-52 win, on Tuesday evening in non-conference women's basketball action.
The Brewers fall to 1-6. They continue their tour of the Chicago area with a game against North Park University on Wednesday evening at 8:00 p.m. The Bluejays improve to 7-4.
Elmhurst came out firing on all cylinders in the first half, going on a 32-4 run in the first 12 minutes of play. A Bluejay layup with two minutes to play in the half gave Elmhurst its largest lead of the half, at 47-17.
Although the Brewers played the Bluejays closer in the second frame, Elmhurst managed to extend its advantage, taking its largest lead, 87-42, with 4:19 to play in the game.
The Bluejays forced 26 Vassar turnovers on 21 steals, while committing just 12 turnovers of their own. Elmhurst also held a 43-28 rebounding advantage, including 17 on the offensive glass, leading to 20 second-chance points.

Emily Haeuser (South Portland, ME/South Portland) led the Brewers with a game-high 19 points, on 8-for-12 shooting, to go with five assists. Freshman
Brittany Parks (Escondido, CA/Escondido) chipped in with 13 points and four assists, while Tempora added eight points and a team-high six rebounds.
Lyndsie Long and Meghan Merklein scored 17 points apiece to lead four Bluejays in double-figures.
