Big Second Half Leads Women's Basketball Past St. Joseph's

Box Score

BROOKLYN, NY (January 27, 2009) – On the strength of 14 unanswered points to open the second half, the Vassar College women's basketball team cruised to a 61-36 non-conference win over St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn on Tuesday night. Freshman Brittany Parks (Escondido, CA/Escondido) netted seven of her 15 points during Vassar's run and junior Emily Haeuser (South Portland, ME/South Portland) chipped in with four of her game-high 22 points.

The Brewers improve to 3-12 (0-5). They will return to action for a weekend of Liberty League play, at Union on Friday at 6:00 p.m., and at Skidmore on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. St. Joseph's falls to 6-12.

Vassar never trailed in the game, as two quick jumpers from Haeuser and sophomore Jenica Law (Palo Alto, CA/Henry M. Gunn) in the opening minute gave the Brewers the early edge. Vassar steadily built up its lead, and took a 30-18 lead into the locker room.

Along with her 22 points, Haeuser recorded 14 rebounds, four blocks and three steals. Law added eight points and five rebounds, while sophomore Carolyn Crampton (Reading, MA/Reading) pulled down eight boards to go with four steals. Parks and fellow freshman Kristyn Tempora (Marlboro, NJ/St. John Vianney) grabbed seven rebounds apiece.
