Clarkson Quick Start Leads to 14-6 Win Over Men's Lax

POTSDAM, NY (April 12, 2008) -- Ten different Golden Knights scored goals, led by junior Greg Gibbon's (Baldwinsville, NY) three tallies, and the Green and Gold's defense put in another solid effort as the 20th-ranked Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team defeated Vassar 14-6 on Saturday afternoon in Liberty League play at SUNY Canton.

The Brewers fall to 3-9, 0-4 on the season. Vassar next faces Union, Wednesday, April 16 at 7:00 pm in an away Liberty League contest. Clarkson, which improved its record to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference, controlled play from the start jumping out to a 3-0 lead after the first 15 minutes and taking a 6-2 advantage into the half.

The Knights continued to roll in the third quarter outscoring Vassar 6-2 for a 12-4 lead after 45 minutes. The teams traded two goals apiece in the fourth quarter.

Junior Brian Hoey (Auburn, NY) paced the Knights' offense with a game-high six points, including four assists. Gibbons tallied four points (3-1), while junior Tom Ross (Adams, NY) scored twice and added an assist.

Freshman Sam Thypin-Bermeo (Princeton, NJ) and sophomore Cody Scandore (North Andover, MA) scored two goals apiece for Vassar.

Clarkson out shot the Brewers 31-21. Both teams had 33 ground balls. Senior Greg Lamb (Baldwinsville, NY) posted five saves on nine shots, while classmate John Svoren (Hamburg, NY) made one save in 12:24 of play for the Knights. Junior defenseman Andrew Kott (Auburn, NY) picked up a team-high six ground balls for Clarkson.
