Women's Basketball Drops Fourth Straight to Keystone College

Haeuser Contributes 14-point, 14-rebound Double-Double in Loss

Box Score

LA PLUME, PA (December 2, 2008) – Despite a double-double effort from Emily Haeuser (South Portland, ME/South Portland), the Vassar College women's basketball team dropped a close 51-47 game to Keystone College in non-league action on Tuesday night. It is the third time in four games Vassar has lost by four points or less.

The Brewers remain winless at 0-4 and will search for their first victory when they host John Jay College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. It is the third close loss for the Brewers, who lost a 78-76 season-opener to Brooklyn College and a 65-61 overtime game to Wellesley College. The Giants improve to 3-2.

In the first eight minutes of the second half, the Giants managed to turn a four-point halftime lead into a ten-point advantage, its largest lead of the game. Keystone maintained at least a seven point edge for the next six minutes, until an old-fashioned three point play by freshman Brittany Parks (Escondido, CA/Escondido) and a jumper from Haeuser cut the Giant lead to 45-41 with 5:58 to play. However, the Brewers would get no closer than four in the remainder of the game.

After trailing for most of the first half, the Brewers took their first lead on a Haeuser jumper with 8:50 to play in the half. However, the Giants regained the advantage with 3:06 left in the first frame, and never trailed again, taking a 27-23 lead into the locker room.

Haeuser led the Brewers with a 14 point, 14 rebound double-double, her third of the season, to go with three blocks, and three steals, while Parks contributed nine points, five assists, and three steals. Sophomore Carolyn Crampton (Reading, MA/Reading) grabbed 10 rebounds to go with eight points while classmate Jenica Law (Palo Alto, CA/Henry M. Gunn) added nine rebounds, five on the offensive end.

Melinda Moore led the Giants with a game high 16 points, while Leah Simko chipped in with 13.
