Wellesley Cruises by Agnes Scott in Seven Sisters Classic, 74-43

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 23, 2008) -- In the opening game of the second day of the Seven Sisters Women's Basketball Classic on Sunday, Wellesley College cruised to a 78-43 victory over Agnes Scott College. Jessica Duff (Milton, Abingdon, UK/Saline) led Wellesley, scoring a game-high 20 points on 8-for-10 shooting and adding a game-high 13 rebounds. Nikki Maples (Roswell, GA/Roswell) scored 15 for the Scotties.

Wellesley improves to 2-1, after beating Agnes Scott and Vassar in its two games this weekend. The Blue will travel to Brandeis on Tuesday, looking to continue their winning ways. Agnes Scott drops to 2-2, after a loss to Smith in its opening game of the Seven Sisters Classic . The Scotties will looka to rebound as they host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the Smart Women Sweat Challenge on December 6th.

Wellesley got off to a hot start, beginning the game on a 6-0 run. The Blue led 42-19 at halftime. Duff paced the team in the first half, scoring 12 of her 20 points and registering 10 of her 13 rebounds. Courtney Richter (Sinking Spring, PA/Wyomissing Area) and Robyn Burleson (Seattle, WA/Lakeside School) each scored eight in the half. The Blues shot 52 per cent in the half. Agnes Scott shot 31 per cent, behind the eight points of Maples and Jennifer Russi (Lake Mary, FL/Father Lopez).

Wellesley maintained balanced scoring, as three other players finished in double figures to complement Duff's 20-point effort. Richter and Julia Thomas (Concord, CA/Northgate) each finished with 12 points, with Richter adding nine assists. Burleson finished the game with 11 points. Maples led the Scotties with 15 points, including Agnes Scott's first six points, while Russi added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Wellesley's bench outscored Agnes Scott's bench 19-10. The Blue dominated the paint outscoring the Scotties 34-12. Sixteen of Wellesley's points came on second-chance opportunities, while the Scotties managed just four second-chance points.
