Box Score

MADISON, NJ (November 18, 2008) -- Senior guard Brian Butterworth (Hamilton, MA/Hamilton-Wenham), pictured left, was among four players scoring in double figures with a game-high 20 points, and Vassar's men's basketball team outscored Drew University 36-22 in the second half, en route to winning its second straight game, 71-53, Tuesday evening in non-conference action.

The Brewers (2-0) will travel to the Equinox Tounament this Friday and Saturday, facing Swarthmore on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. and Haverford on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.

Butterworth went 7-for-11 from the floor and 5-of-8 from three point range to spearhead a Vassar offensive attack that shot 51.1 percent for the game, including a first half that saw the Brewers connect on a blistering 61.9 percent of their shots.

Joining Butterworth in double figures was senior Matt Nunn (Lower Gwynedd, PA/Abington Friends) with 14 points, including 8-for-10 from the free throw line. Nunn also added a game-high 10 rebounds, nine on the defensive backboard. Freshman Caleb McGraw (Sitka, AK/Mount Edgecumbe), who was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week on Monday, had his second consecutive double figures scoring effort coming off the bench with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor. Senior Lenny Holt(Watertown, MA/Watertown) went 6-for-9 from the floor and tallied 12 points.

The Brewers took a 35-31 lead into intermission. With 14:56 to play, two free throws by Nunn afforded Vassar its biggest lead, 45-34. Four minutes later, a layup by Nunn kept the Vassar lead at 11 points at 50-39. The Brewers continued to pour on the offense, getting a layup from Holt, a three-pointer from McGraw, an old-fashioned three-point play by Butterworth and back-to-back layups from Holt to take a 62-41 lead with 7:53 to play. In all, the Brewers ran off a 17-2 run to ruin Drew's home opener.

The Brewers were able to keep the Rangers at bay, capitalizing on a 31-19 advantage in bench points and gaining a 34-23 advantage in rebounding. The Brewers connected on 10 of 21 from three-point range while the Rangers literally shot themselves out of the contest, going 1-13 from behind the arc in the second half.

Drew held a 19-16 lead at the 11:34 mark of the first half when Butterworth connected on three consecutive three-pointers, which created all the momentum Vassar needed to break away from a close first half.

The Rangers were led by Kyle Joyce with 12 points and seven rebounds. Zandy Bard added 11 points.
