POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 19, 2008) –- The Vassar College women's basketball team lost its second straight Liberty League contest in as many attempts, falling 69-36 to William Smith at the Athletics & Fitness Center Saturday afternoon. William Smith, currently ranked 23rd in the country, was led by a game-high 16 points from senior Stephanie Czajkowski (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden). Czajkowski shot 7 for 9 from the field, contributing to the Herons' stellar 45% field goal percentage.
Vassar falls to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in Liberty League play with the loss. The Brewers will travel to RPI this coming Tuesday for a 6:00 pm game. William Smith improves to 11-1, 2-0 and will face on Skidmore next Friday at 6:00 pm.
As they did in Friday night's loss to Hamilton, Vassar fell behind early and had limited offensive output in the first half, scoring only 14 points to William Smith's 42. The Brewers committed 32 turnovers in the game, most of them coming in the first half, and weres unable to gain an offensive flow. The visiting Herons took full advantage, scoring 32 points off of turnovers throughout the game.
The game swung in William Smith's favor early, as the Herons jumped out to a 14-0 lead just five minutes into the contest. Shooting nearly 55 percent from the field and 50 percent from the three-point line, William Bult built a 28-point lead at halftime.

Ashley Sherman (Hewlett Harbor, NY/Lynbrook) connected on several three-pointers to cut the Herons' second-half scoring advantage to 27-22 over the Brewers. Sherman led the Brewers with 12 points. Sophomore forward
Emma Carmichael (Brattleboro, VT/Brattleboro Union) had a game-high eight rebounds.
Senior point guard Marisa Vespa (Watertown, NY/Immaculate Heart) led the Heron offense, handing out 6 assists. Vespa also finished with 7 points and 4 steals. Freshman Mollie Danahy (Troy, NY/Troy) came off the bench to score 11 points. In total 11 William Smith players scored.
