Stevens Defense Shuts Down Women's Hoops, 64-32

Box Score

HOBOKEN, NJ (November 27, 2007) -- Stevens Institute of Technology used a 25-9 run over the final nine minutes of the first half to break away from Vassar's women's basketball team to post a 64-32 victory over the Brewers Tuesday evening at Canavan Arena.

Vassar (1-3) will host Hunter College at the AFC on Friday, November 30 at 7:00 pm.

The Brewers, on the strength of eight points from sophomore Emily Haeuser, had Stevens tied 8-8 midway through the first half. But the Ducks went on a tear the final nine minutes and took a 35-17 lead into halftime.

In the loss, Haeuser grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds and notched a double-double by leading all scorers with 18 points on 7 of 14 shooting from the floor.

The Stevens defense held the Brewers to 22 percent shooting from the floor, but in many aspects, the Brewers held firm on the defense end, as Stevens managed just 39.4 percent from the field.

Outside of Haeuser's rebounding, Stevens held a 53-34 advantage and scored 28 of their 64 points off second chance opportunities. Stevens placed three players in double figures -- Britanny Fuller with 15, Dora Enright with 14 and Dani Dudek with 10. Enright added 14 rebounds to her evening, achieving a double-double.
