Greenwood, IN - The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced its Academic All-American selections in women's cross country and track and field on Wednesday afternoon as Vassar College Women's Cross Country and Track and Field junior
Haley Schoenegge earned First Team honors. Schoenegge becomes the first Vassar student-athlete since Matthew Knigge in 2018 to collect the prestigious First Team Academic All-American honors.
Schoenegge also becomes just the second Vassar student-athlete to earn two Academic All-American selections in her career, the fifth ever to earn First Team honors and is the first cross country and track and field student-athlete to be named an Academic All-American twice.
Schoenegge defended her indoor Mile national title at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships on Saturday with a new career-best time of 4:42.69, which marks her fourth career national championship. Schoenegge led the race from wire-to-wire and threw down a blazing 33.46 last 200 meters to pull away from the pack and record the fourth-fastest time in Division III history. Schoenegge closed her day with a 16th place finish to score Second Team All-American honors after crossing the finish line with a time of 9:53.08 in the 3000 meters.
During the indoor season, Schoenegge raced to a new Division III all-time record time of 2:50.14 in the 1,000 meters at the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University on Friday. Schoenegge finished eighth overall in an elite field of Division I, II and III competition with a career-best, school record and Division III all-time record mark, outpacing her best time set last weekend by over nine seconds. Her record time took down the previous record time of 2:51.13 of Isabel Wyatt of St. Olaf set in 2024.
Schoenegge was named the Liberty League Track Performer of the Week five times this season and collected the Liberty League Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet following her wins in the Mile, 3000 Meters and the Distance Medley Relay at the Liberty League Championship at RIT. Schoenegge holds six indoor school records and is also part of the Distance Medley school record relay.
Schoenegge put together another record-breaking day at the NCAA Outdoor Championships as she earned her third consecutive national crown in the 1500 meters as she pulled away in the final lap, throwing down a blazing 1:05.16 final 400 meters, to finish with a time of 4:16.73. The sophomore continued her illustrious career with First Team All-American honors in the 5000 meters with an eighth place finish to score her second First Team All-American honor of the day with a time of 16:42.43. Schoenegge now holds five total national championships after securing her second straight Mile national crown at the 2026 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
At the Liberty League Outdoor Championships, Schoenegge earned her third straight conference titles in the 1500 meters and the 5000 meters along with earning the 800 meters crown to earn yet another Liberty League Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet honor.
Schoenegge helped lead Vassar to its best program finish at the Liberty League Outdoor Championships as she began her career day with a title in the 1500 meters behind a time of 4:36.83, outpacing the next finisher by almost seven seconds followed by a meet record time of 2:10.93, which ranked 19th overall in Division III this season in the 800 meters and a first place finish in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:50.63, outpacing the closest finisher by over 18 seconds.
Earlier in the season, Schoenegge set career bests in both the 1500 meters and the 5000 meters with times of 4:16.13Â and 16:15.60, respectively.
She holds five total Regional Track Athlete of the Year honoree as she has earned two consecutive Mideast Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year honors along with three straight outdoor awards. The junior now holds 11 total All-American selections with nine of them coming in track and two coming in cross country and is also a five-time Liberty League Track Athlete of the Year.
The junior was named a Third Team Academic All-American selection last season along with earning two CSC Academic All-District honors and has been named to the Liberty League All-Academic team four times.
