Schenectady, NY – The Vassar College Women's Rowing team opened the spring season in strong fashion on Saturday with three varsity 8 boats in action at Union. Both the first and second varsity eight boats came away victorious against the Garnet Chargers.
Vassar's 1V8 won Saturday's race by 11 seconds with the crew of
Bridgette Nally (Chapel Hill, NC),
Sitota Blomquist (River Forest, IL),
Myra McNaughton (Springfield, VT),
Rena Badami (Ojai, CA), Meyers,
Isabella Zumbolo (North Oaks, MN),
Lea Repovic (Seattle, WA),
Annalise Jones (Portland, OR) and coxswain Taylor Fraizer (Roanoke, VA) topping the field.
The Brewers 2V8 boat was also victorious on Saturday with the unit of Thomas Sporte (Oakland, CA),
Emily Schatz (San Diego, CA),
Iiris Lepmets (Tallinn, Estonia),
Madeleine Stewart (Greenville, NY),
Naya Taylor (San Francisco, CA),
Sylvia Sargent (Malverne, PA),
Giselle Peralta (Massapequa, NY),
Brooke Bogardus (Madison, AL) and coxswain
Sofia DeRose (Hoboken, NJ) crossing the finish line first.
Vassar also entered a third varsity boat on Saturday with Jones,
Dorien Laurens (Atlanta, GA), McNaughton, Marina Bowers-Wang (Urbana, IL), Repovic,
Elizabeth De La Garza (Westmont, IL),
Lily Littrell (Milwaukee, WI), Zumpano and coxswain
Ellen Tan (Memphia, TN) competing against the Garnet Chargers.
Vassar returns to the water on April 18 when it competes in the New York State Championships.
