Hilton, NY - The United Volleyball Conference announced its weekly award winners on Monday afternoon as Vassar College Men's Volleyball junior middle blocker
Armaan Desai scored his first Player of the Week honor this season.
Desai helped lead Vassar to a 4-0 week as the junior recorded 25 kills (.632), 15 total blocks (three solo), three aces and two digs in victories over Sage, Nichols, NJCU and Hunter. In the sweep of Sage, Desai hit a perfect 1.000 for nine kills along with two aces and five blocks (three solo). Desai added six kills (.545) and a block in the win over Nichols followed by six kills (.625) and five blocks in the sweep of NJCU and four kills, three blocks and an ace in the three-set victory over Hunter.Â
Desai currently is fifth nationally in blocks per set at 1.14 and leads the conference in hitting percentage at .387, blocks per set and is second in the league in solo blocks (18) and total blocks with 67. Desai also ranks third on the squad in kills with 127 and third in kills per set at 2.15. The junior crossed the 200 career total blocks milestone on Saturday in the Brewers sweep of Hunter and is climbing up the school record book in solo blocks as he sits seventh all-time with 44.
Vassar (13-8, 1-3 UVC) closes its month-long road trip this weekend with conference matchups with Nazareth on Friday and St. John Fisher on Saturday.
