#RV Vassar Wins Sixth Straight in UVC Clash Against St. John Fisher

Brewers improve to 3-3 in conference play, collect sixth straight sweep victory

Pittsford, NY - The #RV Vassar College Men's Volleyball team won its sixth straight match and its second consecutive UVC matchup on Saturday afternoon as the Brewers swept St. John Fisher 25-17, 25-18, 25-23 on the road.

Vassar also scores its sixth consecutive straight triumph to improve to 15-8 overall and 3-3 in conference play while the Cardinals fall to 17-10 on the season and 3-4 in UVC action.

First Set
  • Vassar took a 6-3 lead to open the set as junior Armaan Desai buried two kills along with a winner each from senior Casey McMenamin and junior Walter Birnbaum and an ace from first year Kaden Chen.
  • Kills from Avery Kielbasinski and Casey Jackson trimmed the lead to 9-7 before a four-point run from the Brewers, capped by a solo block from sophomore Henry Bonney, pushed Vassar ahead 13-7.
  • St. John Fisher cut the deficit to 16-13 following an ace from Guillermo Perez and two kills from Kielbasinski.
  • VC reeled off a six-point run behind two aces from junior Parker Schoenl and a block from Bonney and senior James Zuckerman en route to a 25-17 set victory.
Second Set
  • VC earned a 6-3 lead to begin the second set as sophomore Petar Miocinovic recorded a kill and two aces along with a block from Birnbaum and Desai.
  • The lead grew to 11-6 behind a kill each from Bonney and Desai before SJF got within 14-12 on a Kielbasinski winner.
  • The Brewers pushed the lead back to 18-14 on a winner from Bonney and then expanded it to 23-17 on a kill from Birnbaum.
  • Schoenl's ace clinched the 25-18 set victory.
Third Set
  • The Cardinals scored a 7-3 advantage in the third set following a kill from Tyler Cohen, an ace from Aiden Calhoun and a solo block from Connor Holmes.
  • Vassar battled back to tie the set at seven as Birnbaum posted two kills, Zuckerman buried a winner and Birnbaum, Bonney and Zuckerman combined for a block.
  • Following a Kielbasinski kill put SJF ahead 10-8, VC scored four straight points, led by two solo blocks and a kill from Desai, to take a 12-10 lead.
  • St. John Fisher answered to take a 17-15 lead following a Jackson kill and an ace from Calhoun.
  • Vassar put together another big run to race ahead 21-19 behind a Bonney kill and multiple blocks from Desai and Bonney.
  • SJF evened the set at 23 after three straight points, including a kill from Gabe La Robardiere.
  • VC scored the final two points of the set following a service error and a Birnbaum kill to complete the sixth straight sweep.
For The Brewers
  • Desai led the way with eight kills (.667), seven blocks (three solo) and four digs along with Bonney recording eight winners (.333), six blocks (one solo) and three digs.
  • Birnbaum tallied seven kills, two blocks and three digs while Miocinovic posted three kills, two aces and six digs.
  • Zuckerman recorded two kills, three blocks and three digs along with Schoenl finishing with 20 assists, three aces, a block and four digs.
  • McMenamin added a kill, two assists and four digs.
For The Cardinals
  • Jackson garnered nine kills, a solo block and three digs while Kielbasinski registered nine kills, an ace and three digs.
  • Cohen posted four kills and nine assists along with Perez chipping in four kills and an ace.
  • La Robardiere tallied three kills while Calhoun recorded 14 assists and two aces.
