Women's Fencing Topples Yeshiva at the Brian Palestis Memorial Invitational

Brewers battle stiff competition with Division I foes at Wagner College

Staten Island, NY - The Vassar College Women's Fencing team picked up a victory over Yeshiva at the Brian Palestis Memorial Invitational and faced off with several Division I foes on Sunday on the campus of Wagner College.

Round 1 - Penn State 19 Vassar 8

Epee - PSU 6 VC 3
- Junior Nika Ungurianu, first year Veronica Scherk and first year Lela Mittman all scored a victory.
- Senior Aanya Mukherjee competed in one bout.
Foil - PSU 9 VC 0
- First year Rebecca Yu, sophomore Sushama Gadiyaram and junior Elena Rosenmayr battled in three bouts apiece.
Sabre - VC 5 PSU 4
- Sophomore Vivian Wei earned three victories along with first year Mercer Colby securing two wins.
- Sophomore Lily Paine fenced in three bouts.

Round 2 - Wagner 15 Vassar 12

Epee - WAG 5 VC 4
- Scherk earned two victories while Ungurianu and Mittman scored a win each.
- Mukhejee competed in two bouts.
Foil - WAG 6 VC 3
- Junior Zoe North, Gadiyaram and first year Sarah Huynh each posted a victory.
Sabre - VC 5 WAG 4
- Colby went undefeated at 3-0 while Wei secured two victories.
- Paine battled in three bouts.

Round 3 - North Carolina 23 Vassar 4

Epee - UNC 7 Vassar 2
- Scherk tallied two victories while Ungurianu battled in three bouts.
- Mukherjee fenced in two bouts along with Mittman competing in one bout.
Foil - UNC 9 Vassar 0
- North and Rosenmayr fenced in three bouts each.
- Gadiyaram competed in two bouts while Huynh battled in one bout.
Sabre - UNC 7 Vassar 2
- Paine and Colby scored a victory apiece.
- Senior Abigail Geiger battled in three bouts.

Epee - COL 8 VC 1
- Ungurianu picked up one victory.
- Scherk battled in three bouts while Mukherjee competed in two bouts and Mittman fenced in one bout.

- Rosenmayr, North and Huynh competed in three bouts each.

- Colby earned the lone victory of the round.
- Geiger and Paine each battled in three bouts.

- Mittman, Mukherjee and Ungurianu tallied 3-0 undefeated rounds.

- Gadiyaram, Huynh and North earned three wins each.
