New Orleans, LA - The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field season on Thursday as Vassar College Women's Track and Field sophomore
Haley Schoenegge earned her third career Mideast Region Track Athlete of the Year honoree and Associate Head Coach
James McCowan was named the Mideast Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year.
Schoenegge put together another record-breaking day at the NCAA Outdoor Championships as she earned back-to-back outdoor national crowns in the 1500 meters as she outpaced the next closest finisher by almost three seconds and tallied a 67 second final lap to pull away for her second national title. The sophomore continued her illustrious career with First Team All-American honors in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:36.19 to finish fifth overall on the track at SPIRE Institute. Schoenegge now holds three total national championships after securing the Mile national crown at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
This marks the third total Regional Track Athlete of the Year honoree for Schoenegge as she was tallied the honor following her performance at the indoor championships this season and has earned back-to-back outdoor track athlete of the year awards in just her second season with the Brewers.
At the Liberty League Outdoor Championships, Schoenegge earned her second straight conference titles in the 1500 meters and the 5000 meters to earn her second straight Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet honor.
Schoenegge defended her 1500 meters conference title with a first place finish in a facility record time of 4:29.09 and defeated the next closest finisher by over four seconds. Schoenegge dominated the 5000 meters race to defend her conference crown as the sophomore broke the facility record and her own meet record with a time of 16:44.66. She defeated the next closest finisher by almost 17 seconds.
Earlier in the season, Schoenegge set seasonal bests in both the 1500 meters and the 5000 metetrs with times of 4:19.74 and 16:17.29, respectively.
McCowan, in his 21
st year at Vassar, coached Schoenegge to the 1500-meter title at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships. His distance group combined for 60 points at the Liberty League Championships, winning two events and totaling five top-three finishes.
