Schenectady, NY – The Vassar College Men's Rowing team had a big day at Union on Saturday in a duel meet with the Garnet Chargers. Both of Vassar's varsity 8 entries were victorious with the 1V8 boat winning its race by 12 seconds.
 
A chilly race day that featured snow at the outset and winds ranging from three to nine miles per hour.
 
Vassar's 1V8 boat consisting of 
Willem Doherty (Newtown, CT), 
Henry France (Brooklyn, NY), 
Jasper Piermarini (North Brookfield, MA), 
Hogan Flechtner (Sudbury, MA) 
Trygve Aarestad (Roslindale, MA), 
Ben Vinson (Fayetteville, AR), 
Patrick Cincotti (Brighton, MA) and 
Robert Gee (Hopewell Junction, NY) steered by coxswain Miriam Barker (Idlewylde, MD) dominated the race on Saturday. The Brewers finished the 1,800-meter race in a time of 5:55, topping the Union boat who finished in 6:07.
 
The Brewers' 2V8 boat also came away victorious, but in a much closer heat, topping Union's crew by a single second. The boat made up of 
Gabriel Leonard (Rougemont, NC), 
Cormac St. John (Seattle, WA), 
Alexander Gough-Schnapp (Cambridge, MA), 
Patrick Horiszny (Red Hook, NY), Piermarini, Flechtner, Doherty and France along with coxswain Frances Dunn (Saratoga Springs, NY) edged the Union boat with a time of 6:03.
 
Next up for Vassar is a return trip to Fish Creek on April 19 to take part in the New York State Championships.
