#6 Men's Volleyball Falls in Road Action to #RV Lasell

Brewers open UVC play against MIT tomorrow afternoon

Box Score NEWTON, MA - The #6 Vassar College Men's Volleyball team fell in three sets in road action on Friday evening as the Brewers dropped a 22-25, 20-25, 23-25 match against #RV Lasell. The Brewers drop to 8-3 on the season while the Lasers improve to 6-6 overall.

FIRST SET
  • Following a 5-5 tie to open the set, the Lasers used two blocks from Jan Baranowski and one from Jordan Shinaut to take a 9-5 lead.
  • The Brewers evened the score at 12 following kills from senior Vaughn Ramsey, first year Walter Birnbaum and junior Payne Lounsbery.
  • Both teams traded points throughout the rest of the set as a winner from sophomore Tristan Christofferson evened the set at 20.
  • Lasell took four of the final five points, led by kills from Carter Phillips, Theo Zaharewicz and Shinaut to take the first set.
SECOND SET
  • Lasell took a 4-2 lead in the second set as Phillips and Zaharewicz each notched a kill before Vassar battled back to tie it at seven on a kill each from Lounsbery and Ramsey.
  • The Lasers built the lead back to three following a kill from Zaharewicz and two VC errors pushed Lasell ahead 15-11.
  • Lasell's lead expanded to 18-12 before junior Gavin Akoto's kill slowed the Lasers run.
  • The Brewers battled back to cut the lead to 22-19 after a kill each from Ramsey and senior AJ Erickson.
  • The Lasers clinched the second set after a kill from Zaharewicz and a block from Baranowski.
THIRD SET
  • Vassar pushed ahead 6-4 in the third set as Lounsbery landed an ace along with Ramsey tallying two kills.
  • Lasell took its first lead at 9-8 after a kill from Baranowski and an ace from Brenden Joyce.
  • After the Lasers extended the lead to 12-10 on a Shinaut winner, the Brewers battled back to go ahead 14-13 on a Ramsey ace.
  • Baranowski's winner tied the set at 17 all until Vassar took the next three points, including an ace from Lounsbery.
  • After a Ramsey kill put the Brewers ahead 22-19, the Lasers scored six of the final seven points as Baranowski's kill completed the sweep for Lasell.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Ramsey finished with a team-high 11 kills and added two digs while Christofferson finished with six winners.
  • Lounsbery tallied four digs, two aces and three digs and Akoto added three kills and a block.
  • Erickson handed out a team-best 16 assists while first year Tucker Shearn lifted six digs.
FOR THE LASERS
  • Zaharewicz recorded 11 kills, eight digs and two blocks along with Shinaut tallying 10 kills and five digs.
  • Baranowski finished with seven kills and four blocks while Philips finished with five winners and a block.
  • Jesus Garcia handed out a match-high 26 assists and Joyce added four digs.
UP NEXT
  • Vassar returns to action tomorrow afternoon against UVC foe MIT at 1:00 followed by a matchup with Endicott at 3:00.
  • Lasell will take on Springfield on Wednesday evening at home.
