Men’s Swimming And Diving Edged In Home Opener

Brewers win seven events

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Men's Swimming and Diving team opened the home schedule with a strong effort on Saturday afternoon in a tight 142-129 loss to visiting Brandeis. The Brewers won seven events in the meet, including two each from First Years John Gao and Eli House (Oneonta, NY).
 
Saturday's defeat sends Vassar to 1-1 overall on the season through the campaign's first two contests.
 
For The Brewers
  • Gao turned in a strong performance for Vassar on Saturday, taking the top spot in the 100-yard backstroke (55.69) and 100-yard butterfly (55.86).
  • Tyler Tsukuda (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) and Matthew Short (Scituate, MA) also broke the 60 seconds barrier in the 100-yard butterfly.
  • House also won a pair of events on Saturday, topping the field in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.89) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.74).
  • Hayden Ehrenfeld (Long Beach, CA) won the 50-yard freestyle for Vassar (22.12) and added a third-place swim in the 100-yard freestyle (51.26).
  • Alex Graber (Harrison, NY) had a big day off the 1-meter diving board for the Brewers, winning the event with a score of 105.60.
  • Mike Seaton (Hoboken, NJ) continued the strong start to his career with second-place swims for Vassar in the 50 and 100-yard freestyles in times of 22.26 and 49.27 seconds, respectively.
  • First Year Andrew Song (Wellesley, MA) closed out a strong meet for Vassar with a trio of runner-up finishes, placing second in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a season best time (10:42.55), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.15) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.03).
  • Jacob Collette (Millford, CT) scored a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.27) and added a third-place swim in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.77).
  • Logan Seiss (Downingtown, PA) turned in third-place swims for the Brewers in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.45) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.97).
  • Daniel Furman (Secaucus, NJ) posted a strong early season time of 5:31.41 in the 500-yard freestyle.
  • The 200-yard medley relay team of Gao, House, Lucas Jauregui (Barrington, RI) and Ehrenfeld won the race by nearly three seconds, posting a time of 1:39.32.

  • Vassar continues a three-meet homestand on November 1 when it welcomes Montclair State to Kresge Pool.
