Vassar Swims Past Bard In Season Opener

Newcomers help lead Vassar to victory

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY – The Vassar College Men's Swimming and Diving team opened the 2024-25 season in strong fashion, posting a 132-37 victory on the road at Bard. Sophomore Lucas Jauregui (Barrington, RI) posted a pair of victories in the meet for the Brewers.
 
Saturday's triumph begins the Brewers' campaign at 1-0.
 
For The Brewers
  • Jauregui picked up where he left off last season, scoring victories for the Brewers in the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.46) and 100-yard backstroke (55.06).
  • Both events highlighted Vassar's depth in the events with John Gao taking second in both races.
  • Andrew Song (Wellesley, MA) took third for the Brewers in the 200-yard IM, showing a time of 2:07.17.
  • James Hatch (Los Altos, CA) came in third for the Brewers in the 100-yard backstroke, touching out in 1:00.59.
  • The 1,000-yard freestyle showcased newcomer Logan Seiss (Downingtown, PA) who won the event in a time of 11:07.35.
  • Sam Deluca (Mifflinburg, PA) scored a pair of wins for the Brewers, taking the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. Deluca posted a time of 1:53.95, his fastest time in two seasons, in the freestyle race before taking the top spot in the butterfly event in 56.14 seconds.
  • First Year Mike Seaton (Hoboken, NJ) had a big day in his collegiate debut, winning the 50-yard freestyle in 22.69 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 49.03 seconds.
  • Croix Horsley (Cinnaminson, NJ) swam to a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.82 seconds.
  • Jacob Collette (Milford, CT) took second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.53) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (53.77).
  • Eli House (Oneonta, NY) earned a runner-up finish in the 100-yard freestyle (51.43) and was fastest in a speedy 100-yard breaststroke for the Brewers (1:02.93).
  • Alex Graber (Harrison, NY) made his debut on the 1-meter diving board on Saturday, picking up first-place points with a score of 25.29.
  • Vassar began the afternoon with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Gao, Song, Jauregui and Seaton topped the field with a time of 1:43.90.
 
What's Next
  • Vassar will be in action at home for the first time on October 26 when they welcome Brandeis to Kresge Pool.
