CANTON, N.Y. - The Vassar College Men's Squash team fell twice in the opening day of the Liberty League Championships at St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon. The Brewers dropped a 9-0 decision to the University of Rochester in the first match and then fell 7-1 to Denison in the nightcap.
Against the Yellowjackets in the first match of the day, senior captain
Sameer Mustafa fell 11-7, 11-7, 11-5 to Yash Fedte while at two Luis Moncada defeated freshman
Razaan Lalji 11-2, 11-1, 11-3. Three saw Omar Zakaria win 11-2, 11-1, 11-7 over freshman
Luke Chen and four saw Quinlan Jeudy take a 11-4, 11-2, 11-2 victory over sophomore
Patrick Looby. Tom Whiteley earned a 11-2, 11-3, 11-4 win at five over sophomroe
Jarid Haslinger while Alejandro Porras Diaz took a 11-1, 11-5, 11-3 victory over rookie
Kyle Benson. At seven, Nicholas Gille earned a 11-1, 11-3, 11-4 win over senior
Josh Finkelstein as Arnav Mandhana won at eight over freshman
Matthew O'Leary 11-4, 11-1, 11-1. Nine rounded out the match with Varun Kumar winning 11-4, 11-0, 11-3 over sophomore
Wyatt Kern.
Against Denison, Juan Felipe Hernandez earned a victory at the top of the ladder over Mustafa 11-4, 11-2, 11-3 followed by Tarun Mammen winning at two 11-3, 11-3, 11-3 against Lalji. At three, Ibrahim Bekhiet recorded a 11-2, 11-7, 11-4 win over
Luke Chen and at four, Lucas Piller tallied a hard fought 11-7, 6-11, 11-9, 11-3 over Haslinger. Next up at five was Rayan Dar defeating Benson 11-5, 11-5, 11-4 and Joao Victor Barbosa Gomes won 11-3, 11-8, 11-1 against Finkelstein at six. Suryansh Agrawal finished up the day at seven with a 11-8, 6-11, 11-7, 13-11 victory over O'Leary. Vassar earned a win by default at eight.
The Brewers will return to the court for the #5 vs #6 playoff at 10:15 a.m. at St. Lawrence tomorrow morning.
