NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - 10 different players recorded a kill on Wednesday evening as the fifth-ranked Vassar College Men's Volleyball team cruised to a 25-15, 25-14, 25-23 victory over Monroe College on the road. The Brewers improved to 2-1 overall while the Mustangs fell to 0-1 in their inaugural season opener.
Vassar raced out to an early 4-1 lead in the opening set as freshman
Tristan Christofferson buried two winners before the Mustangs cut the advantage down to one on a kill from Joan Galmes and an ace from Amau Riu Giralt. The Brewers responded with six of the nine points as senior
Andrew Kim recorded two kills and an ace while Christofferson and senior
Adam Gulick combined for a block to take a 13-8 lead. VC expanded its lead to 20-12 following winners from A. Kim, junior

Andrew Guaragno. Vassar earned the first set 25-15 victory on a kill from Guaragno.
The Brewers started the second set on a torrid 11-2 run as Christofferson, A. Kim and sophomore
Gavin Akoto each recorded a kill while Akoto and junior
Vaughn Ramsey combined for a block. The Mustangs trimmed the lead down to 15-8 following three winners as Devounte Bennett, Noah Liousfi and Joe Kieler each had a kill. Vassar answered with three kills from Ramsey along with a winner from sophomore
Billy Fan to roll its lead up to 23-11 late in the second set. Freshman
James Zuckerman knocked down his first career collegiate kill to record a 25-14 second set victory for Vassar.
VC scored six of the first seven points of the third set as Ramsey had two kills and Zuckerman added one while the two had a double block. Guaragno also knocked in a service ace and buried a winner. Monroe College chipped away at the lead and cut it to 12-9 following kills from Galmes and Kieler. The Brewers added a kill from J. Kim and a solo block while Zuckerman's winner pushed the Vassar lead to 20-15. Following a kill from Ramsey that pushed the lead to five, the Mustangs scored four straight to cut the lead to 21-20 on a kill and a service ace from Galmes. A service ace from senior
Payne Lounsbery and a kill from Ramsey pushed the Brewers to a 25-23 third set victory as Vassar took the 3-0 match win.
A. Kim led the way for Vassar as he tallied nine kills while hitting 1.000 on the day and added two aces and a solo block. Ramsey buried nine kills and two block assists while Guaragno added five kills, four assists, three digs and a service ace. Senior
Jorge Adames Reyes tallied a team-high nine digs while J. Kim handed out 28 assists and also lifted six digs.
Kieler recorded a game-high 10 kills for Monroe College while Galmes added five kills, three digs and a service ace. Liousfi, Bennett and Pena each added two kills with Timothy Reyes handing out 20 assists for the Mustangs.
Vassar finished the contest hitting .437 and added four service aces while Monroe College hit .068 and had three aces. The Brewers had seven total blocks while the Mustangs added two.
VC will return to action this weekend in its home opener in a tri-match against SUNY Potsdam and St. Joseph's Long Island. First serve against the Bears is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. while the Golden Eagles matchup is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
