CLINTON, N.Y. – It was a split day of action for the Vassar women's squash team as the Brewers defeated Colgate University, 5-2, but fell to Hamilton College by a 7-0 margin.
In the opening match against the Continentals, the home team saw Eleanor Bailey post an 11-4, 11-1, 11-2 victory over Vassar junior
Olivia Berkson from three, while Hope Worcester was an 11-3, 11-2, 11-1 winner against sophomore
Sophia Choudhri at five. From seven, Katie Hodulik bested senior
Charlotte Banigan-White, 11-3, 11-2, 11-3.
At six, Eliza Glass was an 11-2, 11-5, 11-2 victor against the Brewers'
Chloe Vaiman, while the top of the ladder saw Eliana Good record an 11-2, 11-4, 11-2 win over sophomore
Emma Adams for the 5-0 margin. From two, Sarah Stonestreet was an 11-2, 11-3, 11-2 winner against rookie
Adriana Ordaya, while four saw Natalie Harrity with an 11-3, 11-3, 11-1 win over freshman
Mariya Novosad.
The second match of the day against the Raiders saw Ana Mashek record an 11-6, 11-4, 11-3 winner against Vaiman. The Brewers battled back at three as Berkson posted an 11-6, 11-1, 11-4 victory over Campbell Mecke.
At seven, Banigan-White earned a hard-fought 6-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-4 win over Sarah van Dyke, while from the top of the ladder, Adams was an 11-7, 11-8, 11-8 winner against Haley Bloch. From five, the Raiders got one back as Samantha Gerstein posted a 4-11, 11-3, 11-7, 11-2 win against Choudhri to make it a 3-2 game in favor of the Brewers.
A victory at two by Ordaya by an 11-8, 11-4, 11-4 margin against Betsy Figge made it a 4-2 Vassar lead, while the Brewers wrapped up the win with the fifth clinching match at four as Novosad posted an 11-5, 11-6, 14-12 victory.
The Brewers are back in action next Saturday when they travel to Haverford, Pa., taking on the host Fords at 11am, followed by a 1pm match against Georgetown at Haverford.
