POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - Day one action at the 2022 Liberty League Squash Championship concluded for the Vassar women's squash team on Saturday at Kenyon Hall Courts. The Brewers posted a 9-0 victory over Bard College, but shouldered a 9-0 loss to William Smith College. Vassar is now 7-5 on the season with the final match of the Championship on Sunday morning.
In the win over Bard, rookie
Emma Adams posted an 11-1, 11-8, 11-1 win from the top of the ladder against Pam Jaramillo. Sophomore
Anna Lee then recorded an 11-3, 11-5, 11-7 win against Jackie Lerman from two. At three, senior
Nicole Pihlstrom was an 11-5, 11-2, 11-7 winner against Thenuri De Silva, while four saw senior
Darina Kulaha notch a hard-fought 9-11, 11-5, 2-11, 11-7, 11-9 win against Ophelia Wang.
Five was won by sophomore
Liv Kane, who bested Jacinta Creel, 11-6, 11-8, 11-8, while at six, rookie
Sophia Choudhri was an 11-5, 11-4, 11-7 winner against Cameron Orr. The Brewers earned the wins at seven, eight and nine by default.
Against William Smith, the Brewers saw senior
Claire Coss shoulder a tough 5-11, 6-11, 7-11 loss at the top of the ladder to Laila Selim. From two, Adams fell 6-11, 6-11, 7-11 to the Herons' Jada Smith-Padmore. Three saw Lee suffer a 7-11, 9-11, 2-11 loss to Shante Frank, while at four, Pihlstrom suffered a tough 2-11, 11-9, 2-11, 9-11 loss to Joana Pacheco.
From five, sophomore
Olivia Berkson fell 6-11, 2-11, 6-11 to Diya Moolani, while six saw Kulaha shoulder a 0-11, 3-11, 3-11 defeat to Erin Griffis. Seven saw Kane suffer an 0-11, 4-11, 2-11 loss to Molly Wachter, while from eight, Choudhri fell 1-11, 4-11, 3-11 to Maia Dreishpoon. The Herons won the ninth match by default.
Vassar returns to the courts on Sunday at Kenyon Hall, facing off against St. Lawrence University at 10am.
