PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Vassar College men's squash team battled back and claimed victory on Saturday, taking a 5-4 decision against Fordham in day two action of the Conroy Cup at the 2022 CSA Men's Team National Championships. Today's match, played at the University of Pennsylvania Courts, saw the Brewers improve to 7-11 on the season.
Vassar opened in a tough spot, facing a 3-0 deficit after losses at the eight, six and two spots on the ladder. Senior
Reese Collins shouldered a tough 7-11, 6-11, 13-11, 6-11 loss to Dylan Panichello at eight, while classmate and fellow captain
Alex Wisneski suffered a 6-11, 12-10, 11-9, 6-11, 8-11 loss to Sofia Arseniev at six. Two saw junior
Sameer Mustafa fall 10-12, 11-6, 11-8, 7-11, 2-11 to Henry Frawley.
The Brewers rebounded in the next flight of matches. Rookie
Azaan Malik posted an 11-9, 11-8, 11-8 win at nine over Caleb Schumacher, while classmate
Patrick Looby was an 11-5, 8-11, 12-10, 11-9 winner over Robert Cruikshank at four. Sophomore
Rithik Jalali tied the match at 3-3 from the top of the ladder, besting Patrick Rodden, 11-4, 11-8, 11-5.
Rookie
Jarid Haslinger tipped the score in Vassar's favor at seven, posting an 11-6, 11-8, 11-6 win over Nicholas Choo, sending it to the fifth spot as senior
Max Swan took on Winthrop Reed. Despite a win in the opening game, Swan could not hold on as the Rams tied things 4-all with Reed's 11-9, 4-11, 6-11, 11-13 win.
The match came down to the three spot as senior
Henry Mitchell faced off against Justin George. Despite losing the first game, Mitchell battled back, securing his win and the team victory by a 5-11, 11-6, 11-7, 12-10 margin.
Vassar returns to action on Sunday in its final game of the championships, squaring off against Denison at 12:30pm in the Specter Center.
