Women's Squash Wraps-Up Busy Weekend at Home

Brewers fall to William Smith and Wesleyan at Kenyon Courts

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Vassar College women's squash team wrapped up a full weekend of action on Sunday, hosting William Smith College and Wesleyan University at the Kenyon Squash Courts. The Brewers shouldered tough 9-0 losses to both the Herons and the Cardinals, falling to 3-6 on the season.

In the morning opener against the Herons, Rafaela Albuja notched an 11-3, 11-5, 11-3 win over Vassar sophomore Emma Adams from the top of the ladder. Two saw Laila Selim record an 11-4, 11-2, 11-7 win against junior captain Anna Lee, while Marcela Marquez was an 11-5, 11-5, 11-7 winner over Brewers junior Sehar Dey-Kohli at three.

From four, Shante Frank defeated Vassar rookie Adriana Ordaya, 11-3, 11-3, 11-5, while at five, Diya Moolani was an 11-2, 11-1, 11-2 victor over junior captain Olivia Berkson. Six was an 11-3, 11-4, 11-5 victory for Anna O'Connor over Vassar's Mariya Novosad, while seven saw Jada Smith-Padmore post an 11-4, 11-1, 11-4 victory against Brewers sophomore Sophia Choudhri.

Jessica Finnerty gave the Herons an 11-1, 11-3, 11-3 win over VC junior Kelsey O'Connell from nine, while Kristen McCormick wrapped up action from nine with an 11-2, 11-7, 11-4 win over Brewers freshman Chloe Vaiman.

Against the Cardinals in the second match, Leandra Sze posted an 11-2, 11-0, 11-2 win against Choudhri from seven, while five saw Jaclyn Dichter with an 11-3, 11-7, 11-4 win over Berkson at five. Three saw Aanya Anand with an 11-2, 11-1, 11-1 win against Dey-Kohli, while Laila Kewlaramani was an 11-0, 11-4, 11-1 winner against Novosad at six.

Mira Bakshi went on to defeat Lee at two by an 11-6, 11-6, 11-4 margin, while from nine, Marangela James defeated Vaiman, 11-0, 11-0, 11-2. From eight, Julissa Mota was an 11-3, 11-2, 11-1 winner over O'Connell, while from the top of the ladder, Avika Pande had an 11-3, 11-2, 11-7 win against Adams.

Action rounded out from four as Portia Pliam posted an 11-6, 11-5, 11-4 win over Ordaya.

The Brewers are now idle until January 22nd when they travel to Hamilton College to face the Continentals at 12pm.
