EWING, NJ - The Vassar College men's tennis team concluded action at the 2021 TCNJ Fall Kickoff Invitational on Sunday. It was an outstanding day two as the Brewers came away with four singles victories and a pair of doubles wins.
Singles action saw sophomore
Benjamin Almquist post a hard-fought 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 win over NYU's Joseph He, while rookie
James Balon bested the Violets' Henry Hochfelder, 7-5, 6-4. Sophomore
Nihal Kothari earned a victory of his own, battling out a 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 win over NYU's Max O'Malley, while senior
William Hwang bested Ronak Khara, 6-4, 6-2 for his win.
Senior
Mihajlo Ivanovic fell to NYU's Zachary Freier, 6-0, 6-3 in singles play, while sophomore
Arun Guruswamy shouldered a tough 6-2, 5-7, 7-10 loss to Rumaish Khastgir.
Doubles action was paced by Ivanovic and Guruswamy, who powered their way to an 8-2 victory over NYU's Khastgir and Lucas Biondi. Balon and Hwang also combined for victory, defeating Khara and Llan Leventhal, 8-4. Other doubles action saw sophomore
Jay Wong and senior
Mathew Yee fall by an narrow 8-6 margin to Freier and Alex Yang of NYU, while Almquist and rookie Amav Agostinho also fell by a tight 8-6 margin to Shrey Arora and He.
The Brewers return to action next weekend when they travel to Geneva, NY to compete in the 2021 ITA Northeast Regional Championships, hosted by Hobart College. Action begins on Friday and the rounds run through Sunday.
