Women's Squash Falls to Connecticut College & Haverford at Kenyon

Brewers shoulder tough 7-2 losses to Camels and Fords

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Vassar College women's squash team was in action on Saturday, hosting a bevy of action at Kenyon Courts against Connecticut College and Haverford College. The Brewers shouldered matching 7-2 losses to both the Camels and the Fords.

In the opener against the Camels, sophomore Liv Kane shouldered a 3-0 (11-3, 11-0, 11-1) loss to Ashley Breyer at nine, while from four, senior Nicole Pihlstrom fell by a 3-0 (11-8, 11-3, 11-6) margin to Liliana Vazquez. From three, sophomore Anna Lee suffered  a tough 3-2 (9-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-9, 11-2) score, while at eight, senior Darina Kulaha fell 3-0 (11-3, 11-1, 11-2) to Caroline Champa.

At six, senior Melina Stavropoulos shouldered a 3-0 (11-5, 11-4, 11-0) loss to Birgitta Quinn, while at seven, classmate Cara Kizilbash fell 3-0 (11-3, 11-1, 11-4) to Crystal Dixon. At five, sophomore Olivia Berkson fell by a 3-0 (11-8, 11-5, 11-4) margin to Johanile Hurtado.

From two, rookie Emma Adams was a 3-0 (12-10, 11-9, 11-7) winner over Isabel Schumacher, while at one, senior captain Claire Coss gutted out a 3-2 (9-11, 15-17, 11-9, 11-8, 11-9) win against Rachel Matamoros.

Against the Fords, Coss and Pihlstrom were the big winners for the Brewers. Coss won 3-1 (11-5, 15-13, 8-11, 13-11) over Isabelle Johnson at one, while from four, Pihlstrom posted a 3-0 (11-8, 12-10, 11-8) win over Shreya Singh.

Adams fell 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 12-10) to Zahra Khan from two, while at three, Lee shouldered a tough 3-1 (11-8, 9-11, 11-5, 11-8) loss to Ariana Solecki. From five, Berkson fell 3-0 (11-8, 11-5, 11-2) to Emi Krishnamurthy, while from six, Stavropoulos fell 3-1 (11-7, 11-8, 8-11, 11-6) to Catherine Fortin.

At seven Kizilbash shouldered a 3-0 (11-4, 11-3, 11-2) loss to Caroline Smith, while at eight Kulaha fell 3-0 (11-4, 11-, 11-1) to Emilia Zegers. Rounding out the action was the nine spot as Kane fell 3-0 (11-5, 11-5, 11-5) to Lyvia Yan.

Vassar is now idle until January 29 when it travels to Haverford for matches against Georgetown and the host Fords.
