ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY - It was a clean sweep on Saturday as the Vassar women's squash team recorded a pair of victories at the Bard College Round Robin. The Brewers defeated the host Raptors and then bested Smith College - both by 7-0 scores. Vassar - ranked #29 in the lastest CSA poll - is now 6-1 on the season.
In the opening match against Bard, senior captain
Claire Coss was the victor at the top of the ladder, recording a 3-0 (11-5, 11-3, 11-5) victory over Pam Jaramillo. At two, rookie
Emma Adams powered her way to a 3-0 (11-0, 11-4, 11-6) win against Jackie Lerman, while from three, sophomore
Anna Lee bested Thenuri De Silva, 3-0 (11-7, 11-3, 11-4).
Four saw senior
Nicole Pihlstrom defeat Ophelia Wang, 3-0 (11-4, 11-5, 11-1), while at five, sophomore
Olivia Berkson notched a 3-0 (11-1, 11-1, 11-2) win over Meherin Hossain. Six was a victory for senior
Cara Kizilbash as she notched a 3-0 (11-2, 11-2, 11-5) victory in her first collegiate squash match against Darya Hulevich, while seven was a win by forfeit for rookie
Sophia Choudhri.
Match two against the Pioneers saw Pihlstrom with a smooth 3-0 (11-0, 11-2, 11-2) win over Adelaide Esseln at four, followed by a 3-0 (11-0, 11-4, 11-1) victory by Kizilbash at six. Adams also posted a 3-0 (11-3, 11-2, 11-3) win from two, taking down Smith's Gwen Gignac.
Next up saw Lee take on Zoe Kruse, posting a 3-0 (11-1, 11-2, 11-5) victory at three, while from five, Berkson was a 3-0 (11-1, 11-1, 11-2) winner over Grace Hartley. Choudhri posted a 3-0 (11-1, 11-4, 11-3) win - the first official of her collegiate career - at seven against Ciana Socias, while at the top of the ladder, Coss took on Amrita Acharya enroute to a 3-0 (11-6, 11-3, 11-6) victory.
Vassar returns to the courts following the holiday break, taking on Connecticut College (11am) and Haverford College (3pm) on Kenyon Courts.
