Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Vassar Pushes Past Bard, 76-46

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY – The Vassar men's basketball team had 12 different players score in the 76-46 rout of Bard on Friday evening. With the win, the Brewers move to 9-11 overall and 5-8 in the Liberty League. Meanwhile, the Raptors fall to 0-19 and 0-13 in conference play.

Junior Zach Bromfeld (Woodmere, NY) led the way with 16 points and nine boards, while first-year Zach Johnson (San Francisco, CA) picked up his third double-double of the season behind 15 points and ten rebounds. Freshmen Ethan Ellis (Silver Spring, MD) and Kevin McAuliffe (Bethesda, MD) each recorded nine points. Defensively, Avni Mustafaj (Yonkers, NY), Kyle Kappes (San Diego, CA), and Ben Freed (Augusta, GA) all had three steals each.

McAuliffe drained a three-pointer in the opening possession, and the Brewers never trailed afterward. The Raptors kept the game within two points until an 11-0 Vassar run made it 19-8 at the midway point. Bard's Stefanos Psarras sank a triple to keep the lead in single digits, but six unanswered points from Johnson gave Vassar a 14-point lead. The Raptors hit a pair of free throws to cut the game to 25-13, but the Brewers responded right away with a 10-0 span that included triples by Kappes and Josh Brownridge (New York, NY). A final layup from Bromfeld with a second remaining put it at 39-21 at the half.

Vassar had no worries in the second half, leading by double-digits for the rest of the night. After Bard cut the lead to 14, an Ellis jumper spurred a 12-2 run. The Brewers kept the tempo up, going up 69-42 after a Zev Katz (Philadelphia, PA) trey. Then, Oliver Moody (Wayland, MA) scored to push the lead to 29 at 2:48. Freshman Willem Nielsen (New York, NY) scored his first career-points following a jumper with under a minute, and then Katz sank another triple to give Vassar the 30-point victory.

Vassar is back in action tomorrow when they travel to Troy, NY to face RPI at 4 p.m.
