CANTON, NY - Behind a sweep in singles action, the Vassar College men's tennis team posted an 8-1 victory over St. Lawrence University in Liberty League action on Sunday. The victory moves the Brewers to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in league play. The Saints are now 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in the Liberty League.
Doubles action opened with a win at number one as the Brewers top pairing of seniors
Jeremy Auh and
Allen Sokolov notched an 8-3 victory over Leo Romanetz and Joshua Marvald.
Vassar grabbed the 2-0 lead following an 8-3 win at two by juniors
David Gandham and
Adam Krueger over Quinn Bermingham and Eric Tecce. St. Lawrence gained their lone point from three as Nathan Turtledove and Nico Haet grabbed an 8-1 win over junior
Nicolas Demaria and sophomore
Mathew Yee.
Singles action was a sweep for the Brewers, but the Saints put up a hard-fought effort in several flights. Sokolov made it a 3-1 edge for the Brewers from four as he defeated Tecce, 6-3, 6-0. Next up from five was Auh, who battled to a 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 win over Bermingham to make it a 4-1 score.
Next up from two, Krueger took on Haet and had to battle back in the third set after Haet tied things after two sets. Krueger battled on in the third, earning the 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win to seal the match victory with a 5-1 margin.
At six, sophomore
Mihajlo Ivanovic picked up a 6-0, 6-3 victory against Alec Roslin, while at three, Yee earned a hard-fought 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 win against Turtledove.
Vassar closed out the match with another battle at one as Gandham defeated Romanetz, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
Next up for the Brewers is a non-conference tilt at Babson College on Saturday. VC will take on the Beavers in Babson Park at 3:30pm.
