Box Score MEDFIELD, MA – The #38 Vassar College men's tennis team shouldered a tough 8-1 loss against #37 Babson College on Saturday in non-conference action at the Kingsbury Club. With the victory, the Beavers improve to 5-1 overall, while the Brewers are now 5-2 on the young season.
Doubles action got things going as the Beavers picked up the first point with a win at #1. Junior Markus Nordby and freshman Maxwell Conlin combined for the win over Brewers senior duo
Jeremy Auh and
Allen Sokolov, 8-2. Next up was a win by Babson at two as juniors Andre Libriic and Chris Kolesnik survived with an 8-6 win against juniors
David Gandham and
Adam Krueger.
Finally from three, senior Dylan Pace and rookie Jason Weisman pulled off a narrow victory over Vassar junior
Nicolas Demaria and sophomore Matthew Yee, needing a tiebreaker to earn the 8-7 (7-4) victory.
Holding a 3-0 lead, the Beavers continued to press, earning their fourth point as Nordby bested Gandham from one by a 6-1, 6-2 margin. Next up from four, Babson clinched the match victory as Weisman secured the fifth point with a 7-5, 6-3 win against Sokolov.
At three, freshman Sebastian Bucarion battled with Yee, squeaking out the 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (6-4) win, while at two, the Brewers garnered their first point of the match as Krueger took down Libnic in a hard-fought match. After falling down a set, Krueger battled back, taking the game by a 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (13-11) margin to make it 6-1.
Babson earned its next point from five as Conlin defeated Auh, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4) and closed out the match at six as Hampton defeated sophomore
Mihajlo Ivanovic in another grinder, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8).
Vassar is back on court next Sunday, when it faces Hardin-Simmons University for a 10am match in California. The Beavers return to action next Saturday, playing at Tufts at 3pm.
