Men's Tennis Bounces Back In 7-2 Win Over Clark

Brewers put on strong Sunday effort to defeat Cougars

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - It was a victorious Sunday for the Vassar men's tennis team as the Brewers posted a 7-2 victory over Clark in non-conference action at the Walker Field House. The Brewers moved to 4-1 with the win, while Cougars slip to 2-3 overall. The win came on the heels of a tough 5-4 loss on Saturday to Skidmore.

Doubles action got things going as VC juniors David Gandham (Ann Arbor, MI) and Adam Krueger (Bay Village, OH) gave the home team a 1-0 lead from the second flight with an 8-1 win against junior Nicholas Mathieu (Topsham, ME) and sophomore Max Schweitzer (West Hartford, CT).

The Brewers took the 2-0 match lead following third doubles as sophomore Mathew Yee (Sha Tin, Hong Kong) and junior Nicolas Demaria (New Hyde Park, NY) recorded an 8-4 victory over senior Jack Han (Bakersfield, CA) and freshman Sam Pomann (Piermont, NY).

Clark finally got on the board from one as junior Christian Ruebens (Cheshire, CT) and freshman Dariy Vykhodtsev (Saco, ME) edged past Vassar seniors Jeremy Auh (Scottsdale, AZ) and Allen Sokolov (Woodland Hills, CA).

Heading into singles with a 2-1 lead, VC added to it from three as Krueger earned a 6-2, 6-0 win against Schweitzer. That was followed by a 6-2, 6-3 win by Sokolov at four against Vykhodtsev, to bring the Brewers advantage to 4-1. The match victory was secured soon after as Gandham powered his way to a 6-1, 6-4 win against Mathieu at one for the 5-1 lead.

Auh earned the Brewers' sixth point on the day with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Han from five, but the Cougars rebounded at two as Ruebens picked up a 7-6, 6-4 win over Yee. The match wrapped up at six as sophomore Mihajlo Ivanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Clark senior Alex Hattenbach (Wilton, CT).

Vassar is back in action on Saturday when it travels to St. Lawrence for a Liberty League tilt against the Saints. That match is set for a 10am start.
