POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - It was a day of action that resulted in victory for the Vassar women's squash team as they posted a 9-0 wins over Smith College and Denison University in Senior Day action on Saturday at Kenyon Courts. The Brewers (8-15) also shouldered a tough 5-4 loss to Mount Holyoke.
Against Smith College, the Brewers cruised to victory from top to bottom as senior 
Sydney Nemphos posted a win at the top of the ladder, defeating Emma Westgate, 3-0 (11-1, 11-3, 11-3). From two, sophomore 
Nicole Pihlstrom bested Elizabeth Hillier, 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 11-6), while at three, senior 
Samantha Henderson grabbed a 3-0 (11-6, 11-3, 11-2) win against Naimah John-Charles).
Junior 
Amanda Watson was the victor at four, taking down Mieko Kuramoto by a 3-0 (11-5, 11-2, 11-6) margin, while from five, junior 
Isabel Bronson was a 3-0 (11-6, 11-3, 11-4) win against Amrita Acharya. At six, junior 
Alexa Elias was a 3-0 (11-3, 11-8, 11-5) winner over Madeline McCurry, while at seven, freshman 
Odie Berkson bested Elaona Lemoto, 3-0 (11-3, 11-4, 11-0).
From eight, sophomore 
Lucie Bisbee defeated Halley Haruta, 3-0 (11-8, 11-5, 11-5), while nine was won by 
Miralah Michels-Gualtieri as she earned a 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 11-5) win against Gwen Gignac.
In the match against Mount Holyoke, freshman 
Claire Weiss battled Jennifer Mbah at two, going up by two games before Mbah countered for the 3-2 (11-9, 11-4, 6-11, 4-11, 4-11) victory. Pihlstom earned a 3-1 win at four with a 3-1 (11-6, 11-8, 6-11, 11-8) win against Giselle Cabrera, while at seven, Bronson was victorious once again with a 3-2 (9-11, 11-6, 5-11, 11-8, 12-10) win over Nicole Lara Granados.
From eight, Elias was a 3-0 (11-2, 11-2, 11-5) winner over Janiqua Davis, while at nine, Berkson bested Jing Xu, 3-0 (11-3, 11-3, 11-3). Tied at 4-4 all, the match came down to the sixth position as Watson battled the Lyons' Emma Robson. Despite wins of 13-11 and 16-14, Watson was unable to hold on for that third game win as Robson rallied to complete the 3-2 (13-11, 16-14, 6-11, 4-11, 8-11) win and the match victory for Mount Holyoke.
Sophomore 
Claire Coss led the way in the sweep of Denison to kick off the day's action with a 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 11-1) win against Coco Ogden from the top of the ladder. Weiss added a 3-1 (11-8, 11-7, 11-13, 11-9) win against Lindsey Cruickshank at two, while Nemphos was the victor at three with a 3-0 (16-14, 11-5, 11-2) win against Natalie Stanchina.
Pihlstrom bested Chloe Sigg from four with a 3-1 (11-7, 10-12, 11-6, 11-3) win, while Henderson defeated Paige Duffy at five, 3-0 (12-10, 11-3, 11-8). From six, Watson earned a 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-6) victory against Maddie Kate Kaufman, while Bronson was a 3-0 (11-3, 11-4, 11-9) winner over Zoe Pearce from seven.
The match action concluded from eight and nine as Elias gutted out a 3-1 (11-5, 5-11, 11-4, 11-7) win against Raqiyah Morrow, while Berkson was the 3-0 (11-9, 11-4, 11-2) winner over Sarah Spire, respectively.
The Brewers celebrated their seniors on Saturday, honoring Nemphos and Henderson for all of their hard work and dedication to the program.
Vassar returns to action on next weekend when it travels to Yale University to open action at the 2020 CSA Team National Championships. Action begins on Friday and runs through Sunday. More details, including division and match ups will be available soon.
