HAVERFORD, PA – The Vassar College women's squash team shouldered a pair of tough losses on the road Saturday, falling to Bucknell University and Haverford College in action at the GIAC Squash Courts at Haverford. The Brewers, who fell to the Bison by a 5-4 margin and the Fords, 8-1, slip to 4-11 with the defeats.
Against Bucknell,
Amanda Watson collected the win for VC at four, earning a 3-2 (6-11, 11-8, 8-11, 12-10, 11-8) win over Caroline Fakharzadeh. The Brewers earned another point at five as
Isabel Bronson was a 3-1 (11-8, 3-11, 11-4, 11-6) winner against Hannah Yeager. From seven,
Odie Berkson was the 3-0 (13-11, 11-4, 13-11) victor against Emily Tyler, while VC earned its fourth point in a 3-1 (11-4, 11-13, 11-8, 11-8) win by
Caitlin Lewis against Peyton Dripps at nine.
It was a tough loss for the Brewers as both the first and second positions lost 3-1, while at six, Charlotte Hoffberger earned a 3-2 (6-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-7, 3-11) win against
Alexa Elias to seal the win.
Game two against the Fords saw Watson the lone winner as she bested Haverford's Tia Brown, 3-0 (11-7, 11-9, 11-2). At one, Isabelle Johnson posted a 3-1 (11-5, 8-11, 11-8, 11-8) victory against
Claire Coss from the top of the ladder.
At two, Kaitlin Reese bested
Nicole Pihlstrom, 3-0 (11-3, 11-2, 11-5), while at three, Shreya Singh earned a 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 11-6) victory over
Samantha Henderson. Five saw Sunyoung Chai take a 3-0 (11-8, 11-9, 11-4) win against
Isabel Bronson, while at six, Maisie Smith was the 3-0 (11-4, 11-3, 11-1) win against
Alexa Elias.
From seven, Sophie Jackson earned the 3-0 (11-3, 11-2, 11-2) win over Berkson, while from eight, Urgyen Wangmo was a 3-0 (11-4, 11-2, 11-4) victor against
Lucie Bisbee. Nine wrapped things up as Caroline Smith defeated Lewis, 3-0 (11-4, 11-2, 11-2).
The women are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Hamilton College. The Brewers will face the host Continentals at 1:30pm, followed by a match against Colgate at 3pm.
