ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY - Vassar men's tennis opened its Liberty League slate in dominating fashion on Saturday, powering their way to a 9-0 win at Bard College. The win is the first dual meet win for the Brewers this season, following a season-opener at the Conn College Invitational last weekend. The homestanding Raptors dropped to 0-2 overall on the young season.
The Brewers opened the match with a 3-0 edge in doubles action. From the first flight, seniors
Jeremy Auh and
Allen Sokolov bested Raptors duo Immanuel Zion and Zayd Normand by an 8-0 margin.Â
From two, sophomore
Mathew Yee and junior
Nicolas Demaria earned an 8-2 win against Bard's Naka O'Connor and Oliver Allen, while from three, junior
David Gandham and sophomore
William Hwang were victorious by an 8-0 score against Duncan McDonald and Sebastien Dufour.
Singles action saw Sokolov earn a 6-1, 6-0 win from the top flight over Zion, while Gandham won in straights sets against Normand, 6-0, 6-0.
At three, Yee was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over O'Connor, while at four, Auh earned his own straight set victory against Bard's Neal Tolunsky, 6-0, 6-0.
Fifth singles pitted sophomore
Mihajlo Ivanovic against Bard's McDonald with the Brewers coming out on top by a 6-0, 6-1 margin. The final flight saw Demaria earn a 6-1, 6-0 win over Raptors' Oliver Allen for the final margin.
The Brewers return to action on Friday, September 27 when they travel to the ITA Northeast Regionals, hosted by Hobart College in Geneva, NY. Action at regionals runs through Sunday, September 29.
