Box Score ROCHESTER, NY – Fiona MacLeod (Garden City, NY) scored three goals in the final four minutes, as the Vassar College women's lacrosse team battled back from a seven-goal deficit at RIT on Friday afternoon. The comeback effort fell just short, however, as the Brewers (4-4, 1-2 Liberty) dropped a 19-15 decision to the Tigers (4-7, 2-4 Liberty) at RIT Turf Field.
RIT led 18-11 when MacLeod found the back of the net twice in 27 seconds. After a Colette Rigas tally brought the Tigers' advantage back to six, 19-13, with just under three minutes remaining, MacLeod and
Caeli Porette (Garden City, NY) scored late goals to make the final margin 19-15.
The Tigers opened up a 5-0 lead just 4:36 into the game before Porette tallied three of Vassar's five unanswered goals that tied it at 5-5. However, RIT ended the first half on a 6-2 run to build an 11-7 halftime edge.
After RIT extended its cushion to 14-8, an
Ashley Roberts (Bala Cynwyd, PA) goal started a 3-0 Vassar rally that brought the Brewers within three at 14-11. The Tigers again countered, though, rattling off four straight goals to create the 18-11 margin with 4:32 remaining.
MacLeod and Porette both finished with eight points in the loss. MacLeod had five goals and three assists to go along with six draw controls, while Porette tallied six goals, two assists and four draw controls. She also picked up a team-high three ground balls.
