Brewers Travel To Skidmore For Liberty League Opening Round

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - For the first time since 2015, the Vassar women's lacrosse team has reached the Liberty League Championships. The fifth-seeded Brewers travel to Saratoga Springs on Tuesday to face fourth-seeded Skidmore in the opening round at 4:30 p.m.
 
Vassar finished the regular season 8-7 and 5-5 in the Liberty League, going 3-1 in the final four games. Despite coming off a loss to Union, the Brewers had strong wins over RPI and No. 19 Ithaca to take the tiebreaker over the Dutchwomen.
 
The Brewers offense is led by five players who have scored 20 or more goals this season. Freshman standout Caeli Porette (Stony Point, NY) has 35 goals to go along with 10 assists, while Alessandra Fable (Orlando, FL) tacks on 33 goals and five assists. Junior Kelly Pushie (Mahwah, NJ) scored 50 points (25 goals, 25 assists) this season and senior Fiona MacLeod (Garden City, NY) has 47 points (28 goals, 19 assists). Tessa Waters (Skokie, IL) is fourth on the team with 26 goals. Freshman Melanie Silverman (Southbury, CT) is the Brewers top playmaker, dishing out 29 assists this season.
 
Porette has been solid on defense as well, leading the team with 32 caused turnovers and 43 groundballs. Her 72 draw controls leads the team. MacLeod has 27 caused turnovers, while Tillie Newcomb (Denver, CO), Sydney Nemphos (Baltimore, MD), Waters and Skylar Herrera-Ross (Alameda, CA) all caused 10 or more turnovers and collected 20 or more groundballs.
 
Freshman Jackie Molloy (Buffalo Grove, IL) has been Vassar's primary goalkeeper, starting all 15 games. She recorded a 12.07 goals against average and made 116 saves.
 
Skidmore is led by Cas Szwajkowski, who is 10th in the nation and leads the league with 78 goals. The Thoroughbreds have four other 20-plus goal scorers in Amanda Orvis, Natalie LaBeau, Emily Hirsch and Anna Boogaerts. Hirsch and Szwajkowski lead the team with 91 and 81 draw controls won, respectively. LaBeau is the top defender with 23 caused turnovers.
 
Caroline Kenlon has started all 15 games in the cage, tallying a 12.47 goals against average. She has made 127 saves.
