ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Vassar baseball team lost 12-2 in the first game and 12-7 in the second to fall to 7-15 in Liberty League play Saturday afternoon. The Brewers struggled in the opener, only connecting for four hits, while the Tigers had 11. Vassar picked up in the next game, put could not manage to close out RIT.
Game 1
After a scoreless first inning, RIT got on the board with four runs in the second. Vassar scored in the third and fourth behind a
Matt Schwartz home run and then a
Matt Martino run to cut the lead to 4-2. The Tigers went off in the fourth and fifth, totaling six runs, while holding Vassar to zero.
Game 2
The Brewers opened to an early 3-0 lead behind scores from Schwartz and
Sam Brinster. Gunnar Wildercrantz then scored the third run off a wild pitch. The lead did not last too long with the Tigers going up 7-3 by the end of the third inning. Another wild pitch allowed Wildercrantz to score in the fourth.
Daniel Bonfiglio singled to left field, which allowed
Brent Shimoda to reach home and cut the lead to 7-6. RIT scored twice in the sixth, but a field error brought Bonfiglio home the following inning. The Tigers then closed the day with three runs to take the win.
Vassar is back in action tomorrow to face RIT in another double header starting at 1 p.m.
