TAMPA, FL- In their first conference match of the 2019 campaign, the Vassar College men's lacrosse team fell 16-5 against the St. Lawrence University Saints Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Brewers move to a record of 2-4, and 0-1 in conference.
Vassar got on the board first with a feed from
Pat Gibbons to Tomas Meade with 11:30 remaining in the first quarter. Less than two minutes later, a Saints turnover and good ground ball from
Dekker Stebel gave the Brewers a shot just wide of the net. Another Stebel ground ball with a pass to
Michael Killion and Vassar got their second goal of the game.
With 7:30 remaining in the first quarter, the Saints went on a three point run before closing out the quarter.
Down by one, entering the second quarter the
Kyle Cherry scored an equalizer just 40 seconds in. Though, three minutes later, a good clear attempt for the Saints give them the fuel to score the go-ahead goal. 20 seconds later, St. Lawrence connected again. They would score an additional two goals in the quarter.
The Saints advantage would grow in the third quarter as St. Lawrence would score three more goals before
Michael Mullen notched his own.
Nick Diamond would follow up on Mullen's goal two minutes later.
This was the last goal the Brewers would secure.
Alex Terry recorded 54:56 between the pipes and was relieved by Jordan Eichholz.
Vassar tallied 22 shots, 16 saves, and 21 ground balls in the contest.
The Brewers return to the field in Tampa, FL on Tuesday March 19 as they face Babson College.
