POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The No. 33 Vassar women's squash team heads to Wesleyan on Saturday to open the CSA Team Nationals. The Brewers received a first-round bye and play either No. 41 Rochester or No. 40 Bard in the quarterfinals at 10:30 a.m. Vassar last played in the Seven Sisters Championships on Feb. 9 where they finished second.
Playing the No. 1 is junior
Sydney Nemphos (Baltimore, MD), where she has gone 2-5 this season. Freshman
Claire Coss (Penn Valley, PA) has had a standout year at the first and second position, tallying nine wins.
Julia Pollak (San Francisco, CA) broke out this season and leads the squad with 12 wins and is 7-4 at the third position.
Expected to take the fourth spot, sophomore
Amanda Watson (Falmouth, ME) has 10 victories, while No. 5
Alexa Elias (New York, NY) has nine. Senior Allegra von Hirshberg (Mbabane, Swaziland) is 9-7 and looks to play the sixth spot. At seventh, freshman
Nicole Pihlstrom (Fort Collins, CO) is second for Vassar with 11 wins. Freshmen
Natalia Lanzoni (Cambridge, MA) and
Lily Hammer (Wethersfield, CT) take the eighth and ninth spots, respectively. Both have had solid first seasons with Lanzoni picking up eight wins and Hammer going 7-5.
Vassar finished fifth in last year's championships and went 2-1 over the weekend. If the Brewers win, they will play either Colgate or Fordham in the semifinals.
