POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - It was a victorious day of action for the Vassar College women's squash team, who powered their way to 9-0 wins over Fordham University and Bard College at the Kenyon Hall squash courts on Saturday.
In the opening match against Fordham, the Brewers saw sophomore
Claire Coss (Penn Valley, PA) best Julia Seebode by a 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-6) margin at the top of the ladder. From two, freshman
Claire Weiss (Philadelphia, PA) cruised to a 3-0 (11-4, 11-0, 12-10) win against Emily Bergin.
The three spot was won by senior
Sydney Nemphos (Baltimore, MD), who powered her way to an 11-3, 11-1, 11-4 win against Grace Davidson. At four, senior
Alessandra Pilkington (New York, NY) earned a win by retirement after her opponent, Katie Popp, was unable to finish in the third game. Pilkington led the match 11-3, 11-6, 6-2 at the time of retirement.
From five, sophomore
Nicole Pihlstrom (Fort Collins, CO) was a 3-0 (11-5, 11-6, 11-3) winner over Elizaveta Gracheva, while junior
Isabel Bronson (Monterey, MA) earned a 3-0 (11-8, 11-1, 11-4) victory against Caroline Westdyk.
Senior
Samantha Henderson (Mbabane, Swaziland) was a 3-0 (11-7, 11-1, 11-1) victor at seven against Olivia Distefano, while at eight, freshman
Odie Berkson (Providence, RI) had a 3-0 (11-9, 11-3, 11-2) win over Brooke Olownia. The final victory from nine went to sophomore
Lucie Bisbee (New York, NY), who powered past Gabriella Amaturo by a 3-1 (8-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-7) margin.
Against Bard, Weiss moved up to the top spot, earning a 3-0 (11-2, 11-9, 11-2) win over Pamela Jaramillo, while from two, Nemphos was victorious over Riti Bahl, 3-0 (11-1, 11-1, 11-3). At three, Pilkington earned a 3-0 (11-3, 11-0, 11-2) win against Nadia Russell.
Four saw Pihlstrom capture a 3-0 (11-9, 11-2, 11-7) win against Jackie Lerman, while from five, Bronson bested Marlaina Yost, 3-0 (11-1, 11-4, 11-1). Henderston earned a 3-0 (11-4, 11-0, 11-6) win against Justine Zaki, while seven saw Berkson defeat Siren Chen, 3-0 (11-2, 11-4, 11-1).
Bisbee went on to best Ophelia Wang at eight, 3-0 (11-4, 11-3, 11-5), while at nine, sophomore
Caitlin Lewis (Bloomington, IN) earned a 3-0 (11-5, 11-4, 11-4) win against Cameron Orr.
Vassar is right back in action on Sunday when they face Northeastern University at 9am and Boston University at 1:30pm at the Kenyon Squash Courts.
